"Great View and Taste, Affordable Coffee Prices"... Hot Resident Response for One Week Starting the 23rd... Open Daily 9 AM to 10 PM, Featuring Cafe, Hangang View Deck, Photo Zone, Parking Lot, and More
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Changwoo Lee) announced on the 5th that the first Dongjak Youth Cafe, ‘THE Hangang,’ which offers a panoramic view of the Hangang River and Namsan Mountain, has opened and is receiving great response.
The youth cafe ‘THE Hangang (29-6, Noryangjin-ro 32-gil),’ which began operations on the 23rd, has welcomed 1,201 visitors within just one week of opening.
Residents who visited ‘THE Hangang’ most frequently mentioned that “the view and coffee taste are excellent, and the cost-effectiveness is also good,” followed by opinions such as “it’s nice to have a resting place and food spot where you can stop by while taking a walk.”
Popular menu items include the sweet and creamy ‘Einsp?nner,’ the visually stunning ‘Nodeul Ade,’ and the ‘handmade fruit syrup’ made by the operator. Sales distribution was recorded as 90% beverages and 10% desserts.
‘THE Hangang’ has a total of 42 seats, a total floor area of 227㎡, and spans from the basement to the second floor. The first floor consists of the cafe and a Hangang viewing deck, while the second floor includes the cafe and a photo zone. A parking lot with a capacity of about 20 vehicles is also provided for the convenience of cafe visitors.
In particular, the district held a contest targeting young prospective entrepreneurs to select the optimal operator, fitting the name of a youth cafe.
The cafe operates year-round from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. It was in a pilot operation phase until the end of September and began full-scale operations this month.
‘THE Hangang’ is significant as it remodeled the old Gangnam Senior Center building, which had been abandoned for over 10 years, as part of the Bondong Urban Regeneration New Deal pilot project.
The district plans to develop the Bondong area into a cafe culture street starting with ‘THE Hangang.’
Additionally, the district is pushing forward with the construction of the ‘Yongyang Bongjeojeong Park Observatory Cafe,’ a four-story building aimed to be completed by December, which will serve as a catalyst for creating the Bondong cafe culture street.
Kim Jungwon, Director of the Economic Promotion Division, said, “It’s fortunate that many residents have visited and responded well even though it hasn’t been long since the opening,” adding, “We hope it becomes a landmark cafe in Dongjak-gu, known as a top spot in Seoul for sunsets and night views.”
