On the 5th, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced that it will hold a contest for the '2022 Living-Integrated Urban Regeneration Smart Technology Support Project' targeting declining and aging areas undergoing urban regeneration projects.
The Living-Integrated Urban Regeneration Smart Technology Support Project aims to solve local problems and improve residential conditions by establishing smart services linked to regeneration projects.
Through this contest, about 15 project sites will be selected, and up to 500 million KRW of national funding will be provided per site.
The main focus areas for support in the contest are four fields with high resident awareness: safety and firefighting, transportation, energy and environment, and living and welfare.
In the safety and firefighting field, smart early warning services are representative. When river water levels rise, the river entrance is automatically blocked to ensure safety, and collected water level data can be used to predict disasters in advance.
In the transportation field, there is a smart safe walking service. By installing intelligent CCTVs and speed violation warning devices on existing traffic facilities, information such as speeding vehicles and pedestrian approaches in blind spots can be displayed on electronic boards, guiding drivers to drive safely.
The application period for the contest is from the 25th to 26th of next month, and after evaluation by a committee composed of experts in related fields, the final selection is planned by the end of December.
Kim Gyu-cheol, head of the Urban Regeneration Project Planning Group at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, said, "Smart services are essential not only for new cities but also for improving residential conditions in declining and aging areas," adding, "We hope that each local government will actively discover sustainable smart services that local residents can experience."
