Busan International Film Festival Names Director Im Kwon-taek 'Asian Filmmaker of the Year'

Director Im Kwon-taek has been selected as the 'Asian Filmmaker of the Year' at the Busan International Film Festival. This award is given annually to an Asian filmmaker or organization that has shown outstanding activity in the development of the Asian film industry and culture. Director Im has directed 102 films over more than 60 years, from 'Goodbye, Tuman River' in 1962 to 'The Funeral' in 2014. His representative works include 'Low Life (2004)', 'General's Son (1990)', 'Seopyeonje (1993)', 'Mandala (1981)', 'Chunhyang (2000)', and 'Taebaek Mountains (1994)'. He has continuously made films and contributed to promoting Asian cinema worldwide. In recognition of his achievements, he received the Order of Cultural Merit, Geumgwan Medal, from the Republic of Korea in 2002. He has also won the Best Director Award at the 2002 Cannes Film Festival and the Honorary Golden Bear at the 2005 Berlin International Film Festival. To commemorate Director Im's award, the Busan International Film Festival and Dongseo University will specially extend the opening of the Im Kwon-taek Film Museum at Dongseo University from the 6th to the 15th during the festival period.
