Hankuk University of Foreign Studies Media Diplomacy Center to Host Korea-US Public Diplomacy Forum on the 5th of This Month

[Asia Economy Reporter Suyeon Woo] The Hankuk University of Foreign Studies Media Diplomacy Center (H.CMD) announced on the 2nd that it will hold the 'Korea-US Public Diplomacy Forum 2021' to discuss the rapidly changing international order and peace and security measures in Northeast Asia.

The forum, held on the afternoon of the 5th at the Four Seasons Hotel, is organized as a gathering of Korea-US public diplomacy experts to explore diplomatic alternatives between the two countries amid escalating US-China conflicts, North Korea's continuous threats, and rising tensions between Korea-Japan and Korea-China. In particular, this seminar is expected to present strategies and directions in the field of public diplomacy, which pursues national strategic interests through communication with citizens, unlike traditional diplomacy.

This event is jointly hosted by the Hankuk University of Foreign Studies Media Diplomacy Center and the University of Southern California Center on Public Diplomacy (CPD), with support from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The program includes five thematic presentations and discussions: ▲The role of public diplomacy in strengthening the Korea-US alliance ▲The role of public diplomacy in balancing peace and geographical interests in East Asia ▲The role of Korean public diplomacy for stability and prosperity in East Asia ▲Public diplomacy through media in the Asia-Pacific region ▲Transnational convergence in East Asia centered on cultural and media diplomacy. Detailed information about the event can be found on the Hankuk University of Foreign Studies Media Diplomacy Center website.

Chaeyounggil, head of the Hankuk University of Foreign Studies Media Diplomacy Center, said, "The vision and direction of diplomatic policy for peace and security centered on the Korean Peninsula have become key agendas not only in Northeast Asia but also within the framework of US-China conflicts," adding, "Our country's cultural assets, including media, have become core diplomatic assets for regional and global peace and security, and practical alternatives related to this are expected to be presented at this public diplomacy forum."
