Eunpyeong-gu Selected as an Asia-Pacific Outstanding Learning City (BBC)

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Eunpyeong-gu (Mayor Kim Mi-kyung) was honored to be selected as an outstanding learning city BBC at the ‘2021 APLC Asia-Pacific Learning Cities Federation Inaugural General Assembly’ held at Incheon Global Campus at 4 p.m. on the 30th of last month.

The Asia-Pacific Learning Cities Federation APLC is an organization launched to connect 300 cities in 48 countries across the Asia-Pacific region through ‘lifelong learning.’

Currently, a total of 61 cities have joined, including 41 domestic cities such as Seoul’s Eunpyeong-gu, and 20 cities from 11 countries including Thailand, the Philippines, and Vietnam.

On this day, Eunpyeong-gu was selected as the Best of Best City (BBC) for outstanding learning cities, becoming the first autonomous district in Seoul to receive this honor. APLC annually selects cities that have made efforts to operate and develop learning cities and have distinctive characteristics as BBCs and shares their cases.

This year, a total of eight cities, including Eunpyeong-gu, were selected as BBCs and inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Kim Mi-kyung, Mayor of Eunpyeong-gu, said, “It is truly an honor that Eunpyeong-gu was selected as the first outstanding learning city BBC in Seoul. I believe this achievement was earned through continuous efforts to strengthen citizen-led lifelong education programs and to create a relationship-centered lifelong learning city ecosystem. Going forward, we will use this as an opportunity for Eunpyeong-gu to become a leader in global civic education.”
