Over 1,400 Works Including About 130 New Releases
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] From now on, LG Uplus IPTV will offer the latest dramas from the American broadcaster CBS.
LG Uplus announced on the 30th that it will exclusively provide CBS's latest dramas free of charge in Korea starting this October on its IPTV service 'U+tv' and mobile TV service 'U+Mobiletv'.
LG Uplus will begin domestic VOD services for new spin-offs that CBS started airing in the US from September this year: 'CSI: Vegas', 'NCIS: Hawaii', and 'FBI: International'. It will offer over 1,400 titles in total, including about 130 new episodes and previous series.
Through this, customers who previously subscribed to various OTT platforms to watch CBS dramas will be able to binge-watch all content for free on U+tv and U+Mobiletv. All CSI series that sparked the forensic investigation craze, such as 'CSI: Las Vegas', 'CSI: Cyber', 'CSI: Miami', and 'CSI: New York', can be enjoyed together. The entire 'NCIS' series, which depicts the activities of special agents from the US Navy Criminal Investigative Service, and the popular 'FBI' series are also available.
The most notable content is the 'CSI' series, the most-watched American drama worldwide in the 21st century. The new series 'CSI: Vegas' is the first installment in six years since the end of 'CSI: Las Vegas' and has attracted great attention in the US. Original members including Captain Gil Grissom return to Las Vegas with new characters and a fresh look.
The spin-off of NCIS, which has enjoyed steady popularity for the past 18 years, is also noteworthy. In particular, 'NCIS: Hawaii' draws attention as it features the first female leader in the series' history. The NCIS series ranked number one in national viewership ratings in 2020-2021.
The FBI series, which continues the legacy of popular crime investigation dramas, is also releasing a new work. 'FBI: International' is produced by Dick Wolf, who was responsible for the 'Special Victims Unit' and 'Chicago PD' series, enhancing the quality of the production.
Additionally, works making their domestic debut will be sequentially serviced, including 'Yellowstone' starring popular Hollywood actor Kevin Costner, the family-friendly fantasy 'Dwight in Shining Armor', and the comedy period drama 'The Great'.
Jung Dae-yoon, head of Media Partnership at LG Uplus, said, "As customers' TV viewing time has sharply increased due to social distancing, we have entered into a groundbreaking partnership with ViacomCBS to provide more diverse content." He added, "We will continue to expand competitive content and differentiated benefits to grow LG Uplus's loyal fan base."
