[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] The Gyeonggi-do Fire and Disaster Headquarters will crack down on illegal activities related to fire safety in large complex buildings within the province.
On the 29th, the Gyeonggi Fire Headquarters announced that on the 30th, it will conduct a comprehensive crackdown on the 'three major illegal acts'?blocking fire safety facilities, closing or damaging evacuation and fire prevention facilities, and illegal parking?targeting 171 large complex buildings including super high-rise and underground-connected buildings in the province.
A total of 533 personnel from 171 teams, including the headquarters, patrol teams from each fire station, and special fire investigation teams, will be deployed for the crackdown.
The main inspection items include acts of blocking fire safety facilities such as closing fire pump valves and cutting off power, and acts causing obstruction such as closing or blocking evacuation and fire prevention facilities and placing obstacles.
Since the crackdown date was announced in advance, the Gyeonggi Fire Headquarters has decided to apply a zero-tolerance policy for any violations detected.
The Gyeonggi Fire Headquarters conducts year-round comprehensive crackdowns by selecting targets according to the timing.
In April, a comprehensive crackdown was conducted on 400 large construction sites in the province with a total floor area of over 5,000㎡. In July, a crackdown was carried out on 410 multi-use facilities such as lodging facilities, resulting in 98 sites (23.9%) being found in violation.
On the 7th of this month, ahead of Chuseok, 47 sites (23%) violating the three major illegal acts were detected among 204 complex buildings such as shopping malls in the province.
A representative of the Gyeonggi Fire Headquarters explained, "As violations of the three major illegal acts such as blocking fire safety facilities continue in some buildings in the province, we plan to continue the comprehensive crackdown. Illegal acts that threaten the safety of residents will be strictly punished according to fire-related laws."
