[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] Amid a recent surge in COVID-19 cases, Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon will visit Seoul Medical Center, which plays a central role in responding to COVID-19 as Seoul's dedicated infectious disease hospital, on the 29th.

Mayor Oh plans to visit the COVID-19 Situation Room (7th floor) within the medical center to receive a report on the current response status and encourage the medical staff who are devoted on the front lines of quarantine efforts. He will also visit the screening clinic set up in front of the main building of Seoul Medical Center to express his gratitude to the medical personnel and administrative staff who have been working hard amid the surge in COVID-19 diagnostic tests.

Since being designated as a dedicated infectious disease hospital for COVID-19 in February last year, Seoul Medical Center has taken the lead in treating confirmed patients. To date, 15,009 COVID-19 patients have been hospitalized and treated at Seoul Medical Center, accounting for 15.3% of Seoul's total confirmed cases (97,655).

Mayor Oh will also visit the construction site of the new Emergency Medical Center within Seoul Medical Center. The Emergency Medical Center is scheduled to open next month and is equipped with specialized infection control facilities such as negative pressure rooms and hyperbaric oxygen therapy rooms to provide 24-hour continuous response to infectious diseases including COVID-19.
