Prosecution Seeks Additional 3-Year Sentence for Cho Ju-bin of 'Baksa Bang' on Sexual Assault Charges

[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] The prosecution has requested a 3-year prison sentence for Jo Joo-bin, the operator of the 'Baksa Bang', who was additionally indicted on charges of sexual assault. Jo has already been sentenced to 42 years in prison in the appellate court for producing and distributing sexual exploitation material involving minors.

On the 28th, at the first trial session for Jo's sexual assault charges held under Judge Bang Hye-mi of Criminal Division 22 at the Seoul Central District Court, the prosecution stated, "Please sentence him to 3 years in prison." They also requested an order to complete a sexual violence treatment program, notification of personal information disclosure, and employment restrictions related to child, youth, and disabled institutions. Kang Hoon, known as 'Buda', the second-in-command of Baksa Bang who was indicted alongside Jo, denied the charges on that day, so no sentence was requested. The court plans to conclude the trial for Jo and hold a second trial for Kang on the 12th, after which sentences for both will be handed down together.

Previously, Jo was sentenced to a total of 45 years in the first trial: 40 years for producing and distributing sexual exploitation material and 5 years for hiding approximately 100 million won in criminal proceeds. In the combined second trial, he was sentenced to 42 years. Kang was sentenced to 15 years in the appellate court last month for his leading role alongside Jo in Baksa Bang. Both are awaiting the Supreme Court's decision. Separately, Jo was additionally indicted in April for forcibly sexually assaulting female victims during the process of coercing them to take photos together with Kang in 2019.
