Dongkuk Steel, Completion of Color Steel Sheet Line S1CCL

[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Dae-yeol] Dongkuk Steel held a commemorative event on the 28th at its Busan plant to celebrate the completion of a specialized production line for color steel sheets. The company, which previously had an annual production capacity of 750,000 tons across 8 lines, increased it to 850,000 tons with 9 lines through this expansion.
Color steel sheets are steel products used for the exterior surfaces of home appliances or as high-end interior and exterior building materials, and demand has been steadily increasing both domestically and internationally. Dongkuk Steel holds a 36% domestic market share (as of 2020), ranking first, and is recognized as the world's top manufacturer of color steel sheets based on a single plant. The company stated, "We will strengthen our overwhelming capabilities as the global No.1 in color steel sheets and maintain a solid competitive advantage in infrastructure, research and development (R&D), and services."
Earlier, the company decided on the expansion in July last year and invested 30 billion KRW to carry out construction for about a year. The facility named S1CCL (Special 1CCL) completed various certifications and began full-scale commercial production this month. S1CCL is the world's first wide production line of 1600mm scale that combines lamina steel sheets and ultraviolet coating processes. Lamina is a technique that attaches a special film to steel sheets to express colors, patterns, and textures. This line produces high weather-resistant color steel sheets for construction as well as high gloss and high sheen products.
At the completion ceremony held that day, Jang Se-wook, Vice Chairman of Dongkuk Steel, said, "S1CCL is a matter that has been carefully reviewed from design to production to realize the mid- to long-term vision of Dongkuk Steel's color steel sheet business," and added, "With this expansion, we expect Dongkuk Steel to have unparalleled competitiveness in the lamina steel sheet market."
The company's production capacity, which was about 490,000 tons with 4 lines in 2010, has doubled in 10 years. The sales proportion of color steel sheets increased from 10% (separate basis) to 20% during this period. The color steel sheet products made by the company number about 10,000 types, with 30 patents held.
