Yeosu City Introduces 1,000 Won Ferry Following 1,000 Won Passenger Ship

‘Hallyeo 3-ho’ and ‘Yeoja-ho’ Eligible, Benefiting Over 38,000 People Annually

According to the city, with the implementation of the 1,000 won ferry fare system, two of the seven ferries operating within the jurisdiction will benefit: the ‘Hallyeo 3’ operating the Dolsan (Songdo)~Hwajeong (Wolho)~Nam-myeon (Hoenggan) route, and the ‘Yeoja’ operating the Seomdalcheon~Yeoja-do route.

With the 1,000 won ferry fare applied, approximately 38,000 passengers annually will benefit, and it is expected to lead to an increase in visitors, thereby revitalizing the economy of the island areas.

The 1,000 won ferry fare support for island residents is funded 30% by Jeollanam-do and 70% by Yeosu City.

According to the ‘Yeosu City Island Residents Ferry Fare Support Ordinance,’ if the one-way fare exceeds 2,000 won, 60% of the ferry fare is subsidized. Based on adult fares, passengers on the ‘Hallyeo 3’ have been paying 2,400 won, and those on the ‘Yeoja’ have been paying 2,000 won.

Recently, Jeollanam-do expanded support for 1,000 won passenger ferries to improve transportation welfare in island areas, applying it to 106 routes of living routes starting in August. Yeosu City has continuously requested Jeollanam-do to support all routes, and from September 1, the 1,000 won fare system for island residents was implemented on all 196 sections of 9 passenger ferry routes. Following this, the ordinance was revised to include ferries this time.
