Exploring Measures to Revitalize Tourism Utilizing the Global Geopark Ahead of Re-Certification
[Damyang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] On the 28th, Damyang-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that it held a Geo discussion forum to reexamine the value of the Mudeungsan area ahead of the UNESCO Mudeungsan UNESCO Global Geopark re-certification, together with Gwangju MBC.
This event was prepared to commemorate the 3rd anniversary of the designation and to form a discourse among local residents ahead of the re-certification of the Mudeungsan UNESCO Global Geopark.
At the discussion forum, participants included Choi Hyung-sik, Mayor of Damyang-gun, Kim Jeong-o, Chairman of the Damyang County Council, Kang Chaewon, representative of Doraesoo Village, Heo Min, co-representative of the Mudeungsan UNESCO Global Geopark, Jeong Eun-seong, professor of Tourism Management at Honam University, Kim Jeong-ran, director of the Natural Food Research Institute, and Moon Hyeong-tae, representative of the Cheongpung Geo Village Council.
During the forum, they reviewed the projects carried out so far to revitalize the Mudeungsan UNESCO Global Geopark, cases of Geo Village operation, achievements in developing food products using the geopark brand, and explored future revitalization plans such as tourism.
The Geo discussion forum can be viewed on Gwangju MBC's YouTube channel and will be produced as a broadcast program scheduled to air on the 2nd of next month.
Meanwhile, UNESCO certified the Mudeungsan area, spanning Damyang-gun, Gwangju City, and Hwasun-gun, as the UNESCO Mudeungsan UNESCO Global Geopark in 2018, and the entire area of Damyang-gun is designated as a global geopark.
