Suncheon City to Host the 38th Suncheon Palma Cultural Festival

[Suncheon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Heo Seok) announced on the 28th that it will hold the ‘38th Suncheon Palma Cultural Festival’ over two days on the 1st and 2nd of next month at the Suncheonbu Eupseong South Gate Square and the Culture Street area.

Held under the theme of ‘Suncheon Culture Class,’ this event signifies the further growth of Suncheon’s culture and arts, advancing as a representative ecological cultural city of South Korea. The festival consists of ▲ Plaza Arts Festival, Culture Road Busking ▲ Suncheon Culture Class Exhibition, History of Suncheon Arts Exhibition ▲ Palma Student Writing Contest, Palma Humanities Lectures ▲ Hyangdong Gallery Tour, Art Market, and more.

The opening ceremony will take place around 4 p.m. on the 1st of next month at the Suncheonbu Eupseong South Gate Square.

In accordance with COVID-19 social distancing guidelines, the number of attendees on-site is limited to under 50 people, and the event will be broadcast live online via YouTube and Facebook.

The festival will feature a variety of programs including performances, exhibitions, and tour programs centered around the Suncheonbu Eupseong South Gate Square and the Culture Street area.

In particular, the Hyangdong Gallery Tour is a gallery exhibition and viewing program with professional guides, limited to about 20 people per session, and on-site registration is available at the entrance of Suncheonbu Eupseong South Gate Square.

Additionally, around 2 p.m., the ‘2021 Integrity Live’ will be held on the stage at Suncheonbu Eupseong South Gate Square, and from the 1st to the 2nd of next month, the ‘East Asia Picture Book & Webtoon Festa’ will take place at the Suncheon Global Webtoon Center and the Okcheon Riverside area.

The Suncheon Palma Cultural Festival, now in its 38th year, is Suncheon’s representative cultural festival that has contributed to the promotion of local culture and arts and the inheritance of the Palma spirit.

This year’s event is expected to activate local-based culture and arts that citizens can easily relate to by securing the activities of local artists through performance and exhibition programs led by local cultural artists.

A city official stated, “We hope this event will be an opportunity to experience the artistic spirit of modern and contemporary artists who have been active in Suncheon,” adding, “We plan to provide abundant sights and experiences befitting the theme of Culture Class, so we ask for your great interest.”
