[Jeongeup=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Jaegil] Jeongeup City in Jeonbuk Province and Jeonbuk National University have joined hands to popularize the humanities in the Jeongeup area and realize a happy city.
The city announced on the 28th that it signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the 'Humanities City Support Project' with the Humanities Research Institute of Jeonbuk National University at the city hall's medium conference room to expand humanities education for citizens and promote friendly relations.
The signing ceremony was attended by Mayor Yoo Jin-seop, Jeonbuk National University President Kim Dong-won, and key officials from both institutions.
The 'Humanities City Support Project' is a program that utilizes local humanities assets to enhance the social contribution of the humanities and provides lectures and experiential activities combining humanities and culture to local residents.
According to the agreement, the city and Jeonbuk National University will invest 480 million KRW (420 million KRW from the national government and 60 million KRW from the city) over three years until June 2024 to promote the Humanities City Support Project.
In particular, they plan to cooperate in developing and operating joint programs for residents, such as humanities research, humanities lectures, humanities experiences, and humanities weekly events, themed around Jeongeup's humanities assets and cultural characteristics.
To this end, the Humanities Research Institute of Jeonbuk National University will be responsible for planning and overall management of the Humanities City Project, seeking to expand the humanities base and citizens' humanities sensitivity in the region.
The city will play a role in promoting participation in the Humanities City Support Project and providing administrative support, contributing to the spread of humanities in the local community.
It is also expected that this project will enhance the pride and identity of Jeongeup citizens and strengthen Jeongeup's humanities city brand.
Mayor Yoo Jin-seop said, "Through this agreement with Jeonbuk National University, we have created an opportunity to realize a humanities city where the five fragrances (Ohyang) of Jeongeup live and breathe based on mutual trust and cooperation," adding, "We will maximize the effect of the Humanities City Support Project through active administrative support."
Meanwhile, the city was finally selected for a project by the National Research Foundation of Korea in July and has been promoting humanities lectures since this month.
From the 25th of next month, a humanities week event including an opening ceremony, lectures, experiences, and field trips will be held for seven days.
