US State Department Condemns North Korea's Ballistic Missile Launch... Calls for Dialogue

[Asia Economy Reporter Yujin Cho] Regarding North Korea's launch of a short-range missile again on the 28th, the United States condemned North Korea and urged it to engage in dialogue.

The State Department issued a statement on the day, saying, "The United States condemns North Korea's missile launch." The State Department added, "This launch violates multiple United Nations Security Council resolutions" and "poses a threat to North Korea's neighboring countries and the international community."

It continued, "We are committed to a diplomatic approach with North Korea and urge them to engage in dialogue."

The part where the State Department specified the violation of the UN Security Council resolutions has led to interpretations that the short-range missile launched by North Korea on this day is considered a ballistic missile prohibited by the Security Council resolutions.

The State Department also issued a similar statement when North Korea launched two short-range ballistic missiles into the East Sea on the 15th.

This appears to maintain the stance of condemning North Korea's missile launches while the United States pursues dialogue and diplomacy to resolve the North Korean nuclear issue, urging North Korea to respond to dialogue for the time being.

Earlier, the Joint Chiefs of Staff announced that around 6:40 a.m. on the same day, North Korea launched one suspected short-range missile from the Jagang-do Mupyong-ri area toward the east.

The missile's flight distance is known to be less than 200 km, and its altitude is around 30 km. It is believed to be a super-large multiple rocket launcher or a test launch of a new missile.

Previously, North Korea continued military demonstrations by launching a new long-range cruise missile into the East Sea on the 11th and 12th, and a short-range ballistic missile on the 15th.
