Jungnang-gu Replaces All Food Waste Collection Containers After 10 Years Food Waste Collection Container in Jungnang-gu

[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi) will replace all old food waste collection containers and distribute new ones to residents by November.

Until now, various collection containers have been used in each household, which was not aesthetically pleasing, and complaints about replacement have been continuously raised due to breakage or discoloration from long-term use.

Accordingly, the district replaced 6,300 collection containers through a pilot project in the first half of the year, allocated the related project budget in the supplementary budget in August, and started replacing all collection containers for the first time in 10 years.

From October 15 to November 26, 17,140 collection containers with a capacity of 25ℓ will be distributed to single-family houses, multi-family houses such as row houses, and others. Single households with low discharge volume will receive one container, and multi-family houses such as row houses will receive up to two.

Each neighborhood association leader will visit individual houses to distribute the containers, and the schedule varies by neighborhood. The containers previously used should be cleaned and put out on recycling collection days, when the collection company will pick them up.

Ryu Gyeong-gi, Mayor of Jungnang-gu, said, “We hope that the complete replacement of collection containers will create a pleasant and clean alley environment,” and added, “We ask residents to actively participate in making Jungnang clean by reducing unnecessary food waste and properly separating and disposing of waste.”

Since September last year, the district has been sending food waste generated throughout the district directly to processing facilities without passing through collection centers. This has eliminated problems such as odor, receiving great responses from nearby residents. Jungnang-gu Office Cleaning Administration Division
