[Asia Economy New York=Correspondent Baek Jong-min] U.S. President Joe Biden received a COVID-19 vaccine booster shot on the 27th (local time). Although President Biden failed to achieve the initially planned nationwide booster shot vaccination, he actively promoted booster shots for the elderly.

President Biden received his third dose on this day, following his Pfizer vaccinations in December and January last year. This was four days after the booster shot was approved on the 23rd of last month.

The scene of President Biden receiving the booster shot in front of reporters was broadcast live on TV.

President Biden introduced that the U.S. health authorities designated ▲ seniors aged 65 and over ▲ people with underlying conditions ▲ healthcare workers and teachers as eligible for the booster shot, and strongly recommended additional vaccination if six months had passed since the last dose. President Biden also said that First Lady Jill Biden would soon receive her booster shot.

When asked about the WHO Director-General's request to delay booster shot vaccinations in developed countries, President Biden did not make a direct comment but replied, "We are supporting more vaccines than any other country in the world. We will provide over 1.1 billion doses and will also support COVAX significantly."
