[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-yoon] In relation to the so-called 'fake fisheries businessman' case, the police have changed the status of Kim Moo-sung, the Standing Adviser of the People Power Party (former lawmaker), who was previously under investigation before being booked, to a suspect and have started an investigation.

According to the police on the 27th, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Violent Crime Investigation Unit recently received the complaint case against former lawmaker Kim from the prosecution and booked him.

Earlier, on the 2nd of this month, the Liberty Korea Patriotic Corps filed a complaint with the prosecution against former lawmaker Kim for violations of the Political Funds Act and the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes (bribery).

Earlier this month, the police applied the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act (Anti-Graft Act) to six individuals, including former special prosecutor Park Young-soo, who received rental cars or valuables from Kim Mo (43), the 'fake fisheries businessman,' and sent them to prosecution without detention.

Former lawmaker Kim has been suspected of receiving foreign rental cars from Kim Mo over several months, overlapping with the period when he was an active member of the National Assembly.

Kim Mo was arrested and indicted on charges of embezzling about 11.6 billion won from seven people, including Kim's elder brother, under the pretext of investment from June 2018 to around January this year (fraud under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes). Kim's elder brother is the largest victim, defrauded of about 8.6 billion won.
