Vietnam Pushes for 'Vaccine Passport' Adoption with Korea, China, and Japan

[Asia Economy Reporter Yujin Cho] The Vietnamese government is pushing to implement a 'vaccine passport' system that significantly reduces quarantine periods upon entry for travelers from Southeast Asian countries such as South Korea, Japan, and China once they have completed their COVID-19 vaccinations.

According to major foreign media on the 27th, the Vietnamese government announced the day before that it is reviewing such measures and has instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to coordinate with health authorities and other countries.

The Vietnamese government is preparing various measures, including the introduction of vaccine passports, to revive the economy weakened by strict quarantine measures and to normalize social and economic activities.

Earlier, on the 4th, Van Don International Airport in Quang Ninh Province pilot-approved the first vaccine passport entry with a reduced quarantine period of 7 days.

At that time, 297 Vietnamese nationals who had completed their vaccinations between 12 months and 14 days prior to their entry date returned from Japan.

Since then, Van Don Airport has additionally allowed vaccine passport entries for domestic travelers arriving from the United States and France.
