Heo Seong-mu: "Changwon City Ensures a Vibrant and Healthy Old Age"... Grand Prize in National Senior Job Project Evaluation

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Sang-hyun] Changwon City, Gyeongnam, received the grand prize in the local government category of the "2020 Senior Job and Social Activity Support Project Evaluation" hosted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare.

This achievement follows being selected for the top excellence award in the 2019 evaluation, proving that it is recognized as the leading city in the senior job sector.

According to the city on the 27th, this evaluation was conducted nationwide targeting local governments and senior job implementing organizations, quantitatively and qualitatively assessing the promotion performance, participant recruitment, and project management of senior job and social activity support projects.

Despite difficulties in promoting senior projects due to COVID-19, the city received high scores for actively extending activity hours, dispersing work personnel, expanding non-face-to-face projects, and providing the most jobs to seniors among all basic local governments nationwide.

This is the result of efforts to prioritize senior job creation to establish a Changwon-style senior care city.

Additionally, Seongsan Senior Club, a local private implementing organization, was selected as the best institution in public interest activities and social service types, and Masan Senior Job Creation Support Center was selected as the best institution in the senior internship field.

Mayor Heo Seong-mu stated, "We will continue to do our best to expand social participation opportunities for seniors through various senior job projects and help them lead vibrant and healthy later years."

Meanwhile, last year the city invested 32.2 billion KRW in the budget to provide jobs to 12,603 seniors, and this year it plans to invest 36.1 billion KRW in projects such as industrial accident guides, tourism information assistants, school zone safety guards, and silver cafe logistics business units, aiming to create 14,000 jobs.
