[Asia Economy Reporter Yoon Seul-gi] Former Democratic Party presidential primary candidate and former leader Lee Nak-yeon declared his intention to complete the primary, stating, "I will fulfill my responsibilities for the Democratic Party and the Republic of Korea."
On the morning of the 27th, Lee appeared on CBS Radio's 'Kim Hyun-jung's News Show' and responded to a question about his intention to withdraw by saying, "Why ask such a question right away? Aren't you sorry?"
Regarding his impressions after the Ho-nam regional primary, Lee said, "I thank our party members and delegates who participated in the vote," adding, "I am especially grateful to those who supported me. I also take seriously the feelings of those who did not support me."
He continued, "We have faced many difficulties over the past two weeks. Public concern about the Democratic Party has also grown," and said, "However, there are about five months left until the presidential election. During that time, people have started to think about what we will do and what will happen to the Democratic Party and the Republic of Korea afterward. I believe it is better to go with someone who can provide reassurance, someone responsible. That is the kind of candidate I think I am."
Regarding the Hwacheon Daeyu allegations, Lee stated, "Right now, if the big picture is an elephant, we can see the elephant's legs and ears. Although we don't know when, the entire elephant will be revealed," adding, "I have a vague idea of the big picture. I have heard various things but am being extremely cautious in what I say."
When asked whether a one-team unity is possible given the deepening emotional rifts among supporters, Lee said, "I believe party members and supporters will come to terms with their feelings after the primary ends," and added, "Leaders should not be driven by emotions."
Meanwhile, on the 25th, Lee Nak-yeon secured first place for the first time in the Democratic Party presidential primary in the Gwangju-Jeonnam region, halting Lee Jae-myung's winning streak. However, the vote difference between the two candidates was only about 100 votes, and Lee Jae-myung maintained a cumulative majority vote share. On the following day, the 26th, in the Jeonbuk region, Lee Jae-myung achieved a landslide victory with 54.55% of the vote (22,275 votes), securing a majority.
