[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Donghyun] A documentary revealing the making process of the song 'My Universe,' a collaboration between the group BTS and Coldplay, has been released.
On the afternoon of the 26th, BTS uploaded the 'My Universe' documentary on their official YouTube channel. The documentary features their meeting with Coldplay's frontman Chris Martin, the recording sessions of 'My Universe,' and interviews. The scenes in the recording studio filled with laughter and the sincere interviews between BTS and Chris Martin captivated fans worldwide.
The 'My Universe' documentary begins with Chris Martin working on music in the recording studio. He said, "I heard from BTS that they wanted to work on a song together," and added, "One day, a friend said the phrase 'My Universe,' and I thought it was a great title, so I wrote it down and then suggested to my friend, 'Let's create a guide for BTS,'" explaining the background of the collaboration.
Despite the travel restrictions due to the COVID-19 situation, Chris Martin visited Korea to work on 'My Universe' and met BTS for the recording. BTS described their collaboration with Coldplay as "someone who has greatly influenced me" and said, "It's amazing."
Throughout the recording, BTS and Chris Martin shared bright smiles and talked about music. Chris Martin explained, "'My Universe' sings about the power of love transcending everything," and added, "Currently, we are separated by borders or cannot be together, but through this song, we say that nothing can stop the power of love." BTS, who participated in the songwriting and added Korean lyrics, introduced, "We wrote the lyrics thinking about the day we would meet ARMY someday."
The recording was conducted in a cheerful atmosphere from start to finish, with all seven BTS members finishing the recording while expressing their individual personalities. The documentary also revealed scenes of BTS and Chris Martin singing the chorus together during the recording.
Chris Martin expressed his satisfaction, saying, "It feels like a dream come true." BTS also said, "If we perform again, it would be beyond touching, it would be overwhelming," and added, "Whether it's our concert or Coldplay's, if we can sing this song together, is there any moment better to blow away stresses like those from COVID-19?"
Meanwhile, BTS recently attracted fans' attention by meeting Coldplay and exchanging musical ideas during their visit to the United States as special presidential envoys to attend the 76th United Nations General Assembly. 'My Universe' was released on the 24th and will be included in Coldplay's ninth studio album 'Music Of The Spheres,' set to be released on the 15th of next month.
