[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Juhee] Amid controversy over the revelation that the son of Gwak Sang-do, a member of the People Power Party, received 5 billion KRW as severance pay from Hwacheon Daeyu Asset Management (Hwacheon Daeyu), Moon Joon-yong, son of President Moon Jae-in, directly criticized Gwak, saying, "The sword he wielded will grow huge and come back as much as it has drawn attention." Gwak had previously raised various allegations of special favors, including receiving art support funds, against Moon, a media art artist.
On the 26th, Moon posted on his Facebook, "Representative Gwak Sang-do gained attention by attacking the president's child. But now, coincidentally, his own child is involved. The sword he wielded will come back huge as much as the grudge it has built."
He continued, "But that sword might even hurt his son. Will he be able to blame others then? Is his son ready to bear that burden?" He pointed out, "Don't respond as if you don't know because the money was received by your son. Using your son as a shield while the blade you threw comes back is cowardly."
No Cut News reported that Gwak's son worked for six years at Hwacheon Daeyu, which is under suspicion of special favors in the Daejang-dong development project, and received 5 billion KRW as severance pay. Gwak reportedly joined Hwacheon Daeyu in June 2015, worked in the compensation team at the assistant manager level, and resigned in March this year.
When the fact that his son worked at Hwacheon Daeyu became controversial, Gwak explained on Facebook on the 17th, "My son, who barely earned a monthly salary of 2.5 million KRW after joining, is just a company employee."
Regarding the severance pay, Hwacheon Daeyu stated, "Since the employee resigned, it is natural to pay severance pay, and it was paid legally through internal procedures," asserting that there is no problem.
