Sharp Increase in New COVID-19 Cases in Goyang After Chuseok Holiday

[Asia Economy Reporter La Young-cheol] As the number of new COVID-19 cases in South Korea has surged after the Chuseok holiday, new cases are also rapidly increasing in Goyang City, Gyeonggi Province.


According to Goyang City health authorities on the 25th, 23 people were confirmed positive on the evening of the 24th, and as of 4 p.m. on the same day, 53 people were confirmed positive, totaling 76 new COVID-19 cases in one day.


The sources of infection include contact with confirmed cases from other regions (13 people), family transmission (21 people), contact with acquaintances (14 people), overseas arrivals (1 person), and 27 others are under investigation.


By residential area, there were 23 cases in Deogyang-gu, 26 in Ilsandong-gu, 23 in Ilsanseo-gu, and 4 from other regions.


As of 4 p.m. on the day, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Goyang City is 6,437, with 6,259 confirmed cases among Goyang citizens (6,126 domestic infections and 133 overseas infections).


Meanwhile, on the previous day (the 24th), a total of 58 cases were confirmed, and most infections are being investigated as to whether they were caused by family transmission or contact with acquaintances.


In particular, on the 22nd, one user of the spinning room at A Health Club located in Ilsanseo-gu was confirmed positive, and since then, 7 people on the 23rd and 13 people on the 24th have tested positive through screening tests, totaling 21 confirmed cases so far.
