[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Seo Dae-seok) announced on the 25th that it installed fine dust adsorption filters that purify air pollutants on three fences in major child protection zones in Geumho 2-dong, including Hwage Elementary School.
Air pollutants, including fine dust emitted from vehicles, are most effectively reduced when addressed close to their emission sources.
Accordingly, Seo-gu utilized special fabrics that adsorb fine dust and installed adsorption filters on the fences of child protection zones to remove fine dust and air pollutants generated by vehicles.
The special fabric used contains a carbon textile mesh that adsorbs harmful pollutants such as nitrogen oxides and volatile organic compounds, and also decomposes odor-causing molecules to purify the air from unpleasant smells.
Fine dust adsorption filters have been attached to village buses and distribution boxes in some local governments such as Seocho-gu in Seoul to reduce fine dust, and Seo-gu is the first in Gwangju and Jeonnam to install them on fences in child protection zones.
The filters include Seo-gu’s character, Haeon, and promotional phrases indicating the fine dust reduction function, allowing residents to easily recognize them, which is expected to effectively promote the district administration.
A Seo-gu office official said, “We will continue to expand life-oriented fine dust reduction facilities and prepare various measures that residents can feel. We will actively work to protect citizens’ health from fine dust.”
