Seoul COVID-19 New Cases Reach Over 1,000 for the First Time

[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] As the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases nationwide surpassed 3,000 for the first time in history, the number of new confirmed cases in Seoul also reached the 1,000 range.


The Central Disease Control Headquarters (CDCH) announced on the 25th that the number of new COVID-19 cases in Seoul for one day on the 24th was finally counted at 1,222, the highest record ever.


Among them, 1,217 were domestic infections and 5 were imported cases. The provisional count as of 9 p.m. the previous day was 1,223, but it decreased by one after correcting duplicates and misreports.


The daily number of confirmed cases in Seoul has surged since the start of the fourth wave this summer and has intensified around the Chuseok holiday (18th to 22nd).


The daily number of tests in Seoul decreased from the 70,000 range on the 17th, which was the day before the holiday and a Friday, to the 30,000 to 50,000 range from the 18th to the 21st, then increased to the 80,000 range on the last day of the holiday, the 22nd, and surged to a record high of 110,589 on the following day, the 23rd.


The cumulative number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Seoul is 95,949. Among them, 12,435 are currently under isolation treatment, 82,884 have been declared recovered and released from isolation. The number of deaths increased by 3 in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 630.
