[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Cho Hyung-joo] Dongshin University announced on the 24th that it will hold the "2nd Honam Cybersecurity Conference" for two days on November 4-5 at the International Conference Room of the National Asia Culture Center in Dong-gu, Gwangju.
This conference is co-hosted by Dongshin University and Chonnam National University, and jointly organized by the Honam branch of the Korea Institute of Information Security & Cryptology, Gwangju City, Korea Electric Power Corporation, and the National Intelligence Service branch.
More than 50 organizations and 400 participants from local governments, national agencies, public institutions, universities, middle and high schools, and information security companies in the Honam region will participate in various programs including the Energy Convergence Security Competition, Web Vulnerability Analysis Hackathon, Startup Makerthon, academic conference, and expert lectures.
The Energy Convergence Security Competition is divided into general and university divisions, with an individual online preliminary round held on October 21, followed by the finals during the conference period.
The Web Vulnerability Analysis Hackathon is divided into university and middle/high school divisions and conducted as a team competition, with teams that pass the online preliminary round competing in the finals.
Applications for both competitions are accepted through the competition website until October 13. Winners will receive a total prize of approximately 10 million KRW and awards including the Gwangju Mayor’s Award, Gwangju Superintendent of Education Award, Korea Electric Power Corporation President’s Award, Korea Power Exchange Chairman’s Award, KEPCO KDN President’s Award, and Private School Pension Chairman’s Award.
The academic conference is accepting academic papers through the website until October 8, and selected outstanding papers will be presented at the conference.
Awards for winners include the Korea Internet & Security Agency Director’s Award, KEPCO KPS President’s Award, Korea Communications Agency Director’s Award, and Korea Institute of Information Security & Cryptology Honam Branch Director’s Award. Winners will also be granted the opportunity to publish their submitted papers in the institute’s journal.
Lee Dong-hwi, Director of the Honam Branch of the Korea Institute of Information Security & Cryptology and professor of the Department of Information Security at Dongshin University, said, “It will be a venue for sharing information through presentations on the latest hacking trends and excellent cases of cybersecurity activities,” adding, “We will take this as a great opportunity to strengthen the cybersecurity capabilities of institutions and talents in the Honam area and to discover and nurture outstanding local talents.”
