Imsil-gun Promotes 'Disaster Prevention Project'... Secures 98 Billion Won

[Imsil=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Park Nosik] Imsil-gun, Jeonbuk (Governor Sim Min) is promoting a ‘disaster prevention project’ to protect the precious lives and property of the residents from disasters.

According to the county, a total of 98 billion KRW (49 billion KRW from national and provincial funds) is being invested in disaster prevention projects targeting 15 disaster-prone areas.

These projects are being promoted proactively to respond to rapidly changing climate conditions, with large-scale projects such as the Imsil and Osu Flood and Water Disaster Living Zone Comprehensive Maintenance Project progressing at a rapid pace.

The detailed projects include ▲ 86.6 billion KRW for two districts of the Imsil and Osu Flood and Water Disaster Living Zone Comprehensive Maintenance Project, ▲ 3.4 billion KRW for two districts of the Disaster Risk Improvement District Maintenance Project, ▲ 5.7 billion KRW for five districts of the Disaster Risk Reservoir Maintenance Project, and ▲ 2.3 billion KRW for six districts of the Early Warning System Construction Project.

The Flood and Water Disaster Living Zone Comprehensive Maintenance Project was selected as a Ministry of the Interior and Safety public contest project in 20018, with the Imsil district included. It involves river maintenance of 1.3 km, stormwater pipe maintenance of 9 km, installation of one pumping station, and reconstruction of two bridges as flood damage prevention projects. The project started in the second half of this year and is planned to be completed by 2024.

This year, the Osu district was confirmed as a public contest project for next year, with a total project cost of 48 billion KRW. Over five years, it will maintain 5 km of stormwater pipes, three drainage pumping stations, 0.76 km of small stream maintenance, 0.25 km of local stream maintenance, and five bridges, enabling prevention of flood damage caused by heavy rain.

The Disaster Risk District Improvement Project is a project promoted to proactively prevent disasters in areas with high risk of disaster occurrence due to climate change through systematic maintenance. Currently, the Ogung district in Shindeok-myeon is underway, and the Dugi district in Gwanchon-myeon was newly confirmed for next year.

The Disaster Risk Reservoir Maintenance Project currently underway includes Hangasilje, Hugokje, Mokdongje, and Jugwonje, along with the newly added Nosanje maintenance project for next year.

For areas with high risk of human casualties, the Early Warning System Construction Project is being promoted to detect disaster risk signs and enable prompt response.

Since last year, the county has been investing 2.3 billion KRW to build early warning systems at six locations including Supung, Bangsu, Yulchi, Iin, Buhung, and Jeongwolje, with plans to complete construction by the end of this year.

Governor Sim Min said, “We will continue to discover new projects for natural disaster prevention to protect the property and lives of residents. We will strive harder to secure national and provincial funds to create a safe environment from disasters.”
