Namwon-si to Provide 250,000 KRW 'National Support Fund' to All Citizens

[Namwon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Jeong Young-gwon] Namwon City, Jeonbuk (Mayor Lee Hwan-joo) has decided to provide support funds of 250,000 KRW per person to citizens excluded from the COVID-19 coexistence national support fund eligibility.

The city announced on the 24th that it decided to provide the funds to all citizens after consulting with the city council to overcome the economic downturn caused by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and to resolve complaints and appeals from residents who did not receive the COVID-19 coexistence national support fund.

Previously, the Namwon City COVID-19 coexistence national support fund provided by the government was distributed based on health insurance premiums at the end of June, making only 74,870 people, 93% of Namwon’s population, eligible, while 5,162 people, 7%, were excluded from eligibility.

In response, the city urgently allocated 1.29 billion KRW of city funds to promote universal payment, based on the background that the prolonged COVID-19 situation continues, all citizens are experiencing difficulties, and equal compensation, citizens’ livelihood stabilization, and small business owners’ management stability are necessary.

According to this support decision, the city plans to additionally provide 250,000 KRW per person in prepaid cards to excluded citizens starting early next month.

The card usage period is until December 31, and eligible individuals can apply by visiting the Eup, Myeon, or Dong administrative welfare centers by the 31st.

Mayor Lee Hwan-joo said, “By providing the COVID-19 coexistence national support fund to all citizens, we hope to revive the depressed local economy and help small business owners overcome their management crisis in this difficult time.” He added, “Although it is a long COVID era, I hope all citizens unite and overcome difficulties together.”
