Police Send Sitting Judge Suspected of Sexual Harassment and Violating Quarantine Rules to Prosecutors

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] A sitting judge has been sent to the prosecution on charges of sexually harassing a woman who was drinking with acquaintances late at night in violation of quarantine rules.

According to the police on the 24th, the Seocho Police Station in Seoul sent Mr. A to the prosecution on charges of forcible sexual assault under the Criminal Act.

The police received a report that Mr. A, who was drinking with six acquaintances at an apartment in Seocho-gu around 1 a.m. on the 8th of last month, sexually harassed a woman who was present, and launched an investigation. Shortly after the incident became known, the reporter, the victim, and witnesses submitted statements and petitions saying "there was no sexual harassment, please do not make this an issue." However, since sexual harassment is not a crime subject to non-prosecution by the victim, the police continued the related investigation.

Additionally, under the Level 4 social distancing measures applied in the metropolitan area at the time, private gatherings of three or more people were prohibited after 6 p.m., so Mr. A and others were also reported to the local district office for violating quarantine rules.
