Ministry of Environment Listens to Voices of Civil Society on Environmental Policies

[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Joo Sang-don] The Ministry of Environment announced that it held the appointment ceremony for committee members and the 1st meeting of the 4th Public-Private Environmental Policy Council on the afternoon of the 24th at the Kensington Hotel located in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul.


The Public-Private Environmental Policy Council is a consultative body between the Ministry of Environment and private organizations, consisting of 19 major environmental organizations affiliated with the Korea Environmental Conference and the Ministry of Environment’s vice minister and bureau directors. The 3rd Policy Council was formed and operated in 2019, and with the expiration of the 3rd committee members’ terms, the 4th Policy Council was launched in 2021.


At this appointment ceremony and the 1st meeting, eight private committee members including Kim Mi-hwa, Chairperson of the Resource Circulation Social Solidarity, who serves as co-chair, and seven government members including Minister of Environment Han Jeong-ae and Director General of Green Transition Policy Jang Gi-bok attended.


During the event, the Ministry of Environment presented appointment letters to the private committee members of the 4th Public-Private Environmental Policy Council. They also shared the progress of major environmental policies such as resource circulation and collected opinions from private organizations on environmental issues through discussions.


Minister Han said, "I am very honored to hear the opinions of civil society through the 1st meeting of the 4th Public-Private Environmental Policy Council," and added, "I hope that the Ministry of Environment and civil society will move forward on the path of cooperation to respond to environmental issues such as establishing a circular economy system."
