[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] Kim Ki-hyun, floor leader of the People Power Party, warned on the 24th regarding the preferential treatment allegations in the Daejang-dong development project, saying, "The double standards of the Democratic Party of Korea, which tries to grant impunity even when their own commit illegal acts and corruption, is nothing new," and added, "As seen in the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) real estate corruption scandal, the Democratic Party's attitude will face public resistance."
At the floor strategy meeting held that day, Floor Leader Kim said, "I believe there should be no distinction between ruling and opposition parties when it comes to eliminating privilege and unfairness," and stated, "If the Daejang-dong gate is a People Power Party gate as claimed by the Democratic Party and Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung, then the Democratic Party and Governor Lee should more actively call for a special prosecutor and a national audit. Wouldn't that be logical? I hope the Democratic Party stops making self-defeating moves and actively cooperates with the demands for a special prosecutor and national audit."
He continued, "The one who hides is the culprit. If they continue to hide and resist, we will face a second Cho Kuk incident," and criticized, "It is utterly pathetic that the current reality continuously reminds us of the Cho Kuk incident, which revealed the blatant hypocrisy that was so different on the surface and inside."
He also said, "The various allegations that have emerged almost daily prove that this Daejang-dong gate is the final chapter of a comprehensive corruption set," and "I respectfully demand that Governor Lee immediately apologize for trying to cover up the truth and blur the focus to deflect attention."
