Netizens say, "Isn't there a lack of basic knowledge about housing subscription?"
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoon Seul-gi] Yoon Seok-yeol, the former Prosecutor General and a presidential pre-candidate of the People Power Party, sparked controversy again by responding to a question about whether he had ever opened a housing subscription savings account, saying, "I haven't opened one because I don't have a house."
On the 23rd, during the People Power Party's second presidential primary TV debate, Yoon made this remark in response to a question from fellow party candidate Yoo Seung-min. Yoo pointed out, "If you don't have a house, you should rather open a housing subscription savings account."
This comment came amid allegations from Yoo that Yoon plagiarized his pledge regarding additional points for military service members in housing subscriptions. Yoo said, "I announced a pledge to give extra points in housing subscriptions to our soldiers who have completed mandatory military service, and it's exactly the same as my pledge," adding, "Even the numbers are identical, not a single word is different."
After Yoon's remark became known, netizens criticized him for lacking basic knowledge about housing subscriptions. A user A on an online community said, "It seems he has no understanding of his own pledge," and added, "This seems more than a slip of the tongue; it appears to be ignorance."
Another community user B criticized, "In a situation where even if you enter a housing subscription, it's uncertain whether you can get a house, saying you don't open one because you don't have a house makes no sense," and added, "It seems (Yoon) doesn't know anything about housing subscriptions."
Meanwhile, Yoon joined the People Power Party in July and is leading the opposition's approval ratings. However, during interviews and communication with the public, he has been embroiled in controversies over gaffes such as '120 hours of work per week,' 'contaminated food,' 'feminism as the cause of low birth rates,' 'no difference between regular and irregular workers,' 'manual labor is something Africans do,' and 'major media outlets.'
