[Gangjin=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-su] Gangjin-gun, Jeollanam-do is thoroughly preparing to attract the '2022 Rural and Fishing Village Vulnerable Area Living Condition Improvement Project,' a national balanced development committee public contest project.


According to the county on the 23rd, on the 16th, an explanatory meeting was held with about 30 residents each from Songjeong Village in Gangjin-eup and Dongsam-in Village in Byeongyeong-myeon, explaining the project direction and purpose, and discovering necessary projects for the villages through collecting residents' opinions.


This project is promoted to secure a safe residential environment for residents in remote rural and fishing villages and improve the basic quality of life.


If finally selected for the project, up to 2 billion KRW including national funds can be supported, and various projects such as securing residents' safety, improving residential environment, supporting human care activities, housing maintenance, and strengthening residents' capabilities can be promoted.


County Governor Lee Seung-ok said, "The county is doing its best to be selected for the public contest project to reduce local government expenses and improve the quality of the project to expand stable facilities and living infrastructure for the residents," adding, "We will actively express the necessity of improving vulnerable area conditions for next year's public contest project and improve the quality of life for the residents."


Meanwhile, the Rural and Fishing Village Vulnerable Area Living Condition Improvement Project accepts applications until the end of this year, undergoes the first screening by Jeollanam-do in January next year, followed by a written evaluation and comprehensive evaluation by the National Balanced Development Committee in February. The final selection results will be announced in March.


So far, Gangjin-gun has been selected for the public contest project and has been promoting village environment improvement in Nampo Village, Gangjin-eup (1.8 billion KRW) in 2017, Yeongpo Village, Gundo-myeon (2.1 billion KRW) in 2019, Jangdong Village, Gangjin-eup (1.9 billion KRW) in 2021, and Naedong Village, Jakcheon-myeon (2 billion KRW).
