On the last day of the Chuseok holiday, various gift sets appeared on secondhand trading platforms.
According to domestic secondhand trading platforms such as Danggeun Market on the 22nd, the number of people wishing to trade unopened Chuseok gift sets surged since the weekend when the Chuseok holiday began.
The traded items mostly consist of Chuseok gift sets sold at various retail stores, including tuna, cooking oil, ham, red ginseng, and shampoo. Prices range widely from around 10,000 KRW to the low to mid 100,000 KRW range.
The reasons sellers gave for selling gift sets were diverse. Many said they received multiple similar gift sets or received products they did not like as gifts.
Others wrote reasons such as "I don't need this product," "I probably won't use it," or "It's too much for me alone."
There were also posts from people who said they have a fever and cannot tolerate ginseng or red ginseng products, or single-person households selling large amounts of meat gifts.
They listed the products at prices about 30-35% cheaper than the retail price. Some sellers even registered items at more than 50% off the retail price.
According to Danggeun Market, last year during the Chuseok holiday period, "Spam" ranked third overall in search terms on the platform.
A person identified as A, who sold canned ham sets through secondhand trading, said, "I posted gifts I received before Chuseok in advance and made a decent profit," adding, "It was hard to deal with them, but it's good to be able to sell them even at a low price."
Another user, B, said, "I plan to buy products with long shelf lives like tuna and canned ham cheaply during this opportunity," expressing joy by saying, "It's a golden opportunity for families with many members."
