[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Sumi] The last text message sent by Gabby Petito (22), an American woman who went missing after traveling with her boyfriend and was later found dead, has been revealed.

According to a report by NBC on the 21st (local time), Petito's mother, Nicole Schmidt, received a strange text message sent from Petito's phone on August 27.

The message read, "Can you help Stan? I keep getting his voicemail and missed calls." Mother Schmidt explained that 'Stan' is the name of Petito's grandfather.

Schmidt told the police, "Petito never called her grandfather 'Stan.' It's suspicious."

Additionally, Petito's lawyer Richard Stafford said, "Petito once sent a message saying 'No service in Yosemite'." Petito's phone was turned off for about 15 days after sending that message.

Mother Schmidt insists, "I don't think the last message came from my daughter."

Earlier, Petito went missing after visiting Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming with her boyfriend Brian Laundrie (23), and was found dead on the 21st.

Foreign media reported that police are searching Laundrie's home.

Petito and Laundrie started traveling together in the US in July, but it is reported that they had a fight during the trip. Laundrie returned home alone on the 1st.

Laundrie has remained tight-lipped regarding Petito's disappearance and reportedly exercised his right to remain silent during police investigations.

Authorities have identified Laundrie as a person of interest in the case but have not named him a suspect. It is known that Laundrie's whereabouts have been unknown for the past few days since returning home.

The exact cause of Petito's death has not yet been determined. Authorities plan to conduct an autopsy on Petito's body on the 21st.
