[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Sumi] Among the COVID-19 breakthrough infection cases confirmed in Seoul, the largest proportion was found in the 30s age group.
According to Seoul City on the 20th, as of the 18th, the number of breakthrough infections in Seoul was 2,703. COVID-19 breakthrough infection refers to testing positive for COVID-19 despite completing the prescribed number of vaccinations (one dose for Janssen, two doses for AstraZeneca, Pfizer, or Moderna) and passing the two-week immunity formation period.
By age group, those in their 30s accounted for the highest proportion at 28.7% (776 people). This was followed by those in their 70s at 23.6% (638 people) and those in their 60s at 18.5% (499 people).
Breakthrough infections were lowest among those in their 20s and teens, who have lower vaccination rates overall.
Meanwhile, as of midnight on the same day, the number of new confirmed cases in Seoul increased by 437 by 6 p.m. This brings the cumulative confirmed cases in Seoul to 92,293.
This figure is 52 fewer than the same time on the previous day (the 19th). On the previous day, 489 cases were confirmed from midnight to 6 p.m. An additional 94 cases were confirmed by midnight, totaling 583 confirmed cases.
