"To Capture Online Consumers" ... Distribution Industry Competes to Attract 'IT Talent' New employees who were finally selected after completing the Homeplus first half public recruitment internship process received their appointment letters from Hwang Jeong-hee, Head of Human Resources at Homeplus, on the 13th at the Homeplus headquarters building in Deungchon-dong, Seoul.

[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] The competition to secure information technology (IT) personnel, which began in the e-commerce industry, is expanding across the distribution and food industries. This is due to the increased share of the online shopping market influenced by COVID-19, intensifying the battle to secure excellent online and mobile developers.

According to the distribution industry on the 20th, Homeplus is recruiting experienced professionals in a total of eight areas by the 28th, including ▲service planners ▲search planners ▲online exhibition developers ▲frontend web developers ▲frontend publishers ▲frontend API developers ▲fulfillment developers ▲iPhone developers. This is because Homeplus is strengthening its mobile services to stabilize the system of the newly revamped Homeplus mobile application earlier this year and to enhance customers' online shopping experience and provide better services. The recruitment process consists of document screening, first interview, and second interview, all of which will be conducted via video conference.

Having conducted three public recruitments this year alone, including hiring university graduate buyers for the first time in three years, Homeplus is actively promoting CEO Lee Je-hoon's management philosophy of 'investing in people.' The second half of the year 'recruitment-linked university graduate new intern' selection process, which recently closed applications, attracted nearly 3,900 applicants, and Homeplus plans to hire a triple-digit number from among them.

Shin Yoon-seop, head of the Homeplus organizational operations team, said, "Through more aggressive talent recruitment than in previous years, we plan to demonstrate the power of a young distribution company leading the rapidly changing distribution industry trends," adding, "We will fulfill corporate social responsibility through the creation of quality jobs and actively participate in ESG management."

Hy, which closed applications on the 17th, is conducting a 2021 second half new graduate and experienced employee open recruitment for six positions. Both new graduates and experienced personnel include IT roles; new graduates are recruited in ▲sales management ▲research ▲production ▲marketing fields, while experienced personnel are recruited in ▲research ▲data analysis fields. Additional screening will proceed in the order of aptitude tests, practical interviews, internship training, and executive interviews for successful candidates.

Dongwon Group is also recruiting talents in IT as well as marketing and sales across 10 major affiliates including Dongwon F&B and Dongwon Home Food. Document submission is from the 23rd of this month to the 13th of next month, and the recruitment process proceeds in the order of document screening, online written test, first interview, and final interview.

Earlier, eBay Korea, through its second half developer open recruitment held last month, sought to secure more than twice the usual number of mid-level developers across a total of 27 areas including ▲frontend (FE) ▲backend (BE) ▲platform ▲system.

SSG.com also recruited experienced developers on the largest scale since its establishment as a standalone corporation through a single developer recruitment, and CJ Olive Young, focusing on online businesses such as same-day delivery, publicly recruited a double-digit number of experienced developers on the largest scale since its founding.

A distribution industry official said, "The IT talent acquisition by distribution companies to capture online consumers' attention will continue," and predicted, "Competition to secure excellent talent, including drastic salary increases, will also accelerate."
