Daejeon City Operates 'Budget Waste Reporting Center'... Rewards Up to 20 Million KRW

[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Daejeon City announced on the 19th that it will operate the 'Budget Waste Reporting Center' intensively until the end of next month.

The Budget Waste Reporting Center is operated as a means for citizens to directly monitor and demand corrective actions on cases of budget misuse to ensure that taxes are not wasted.

The main purpose of operating the reporting center is to request correction or improvement regarding improper budget expenditures such as unnecessary construction, energy waste in public facilities, poor-quality construction, and wasteful events. In addition, ideas related to budget savings and revenue increase can also be submitted through the center.

Reports can be made via the National Sinmungo, the city’s official website, or the Budget Office at City Hall.

If the city deems the report valid and adopts it, a reward of up to 20 million KRW will be provided.

Kim Seung-tae, the city’s Budget Officer, said, “We expect citizens to act as watchdogs by reporting cases of budget waste they discover in their daily lives through the reporting center, so that precious taxes can be used correctly, properly, and appropriately.” He added, “Along with operating the reporting center, the city will strive for sound local financial management to ensure that expenditure budgets are executed timely and appropriately.”
