[Asia Economy Reporter Park Ji-hwan] On the 19th, the campaign of Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party of Korea's presidential candidate, held an emergency press conference to strongly respond to the all-out offensive from opposition parties and intra-party rival candidates regarding the Daejang district allegations.

Lee Jae-myung's election campaign committee held a press conference that day and stated, "Some media outlets and the People Power Party have claimed or reported without any verification that 'Candidate Lee's son is working as an employee at Hwacheon Daeyu,'" adding, "However, all of these claims were false. Rather, it was confirmed that businesspeople related to the younger brother of former lawmaker Shin Young-soo, the son of lawmaker Kwak Sang-do, and former lawmaker Won Yoo-chul were investors, employees, or advisors."

The campaign committee said, "We will strictly hold legally accountable those who spread false information and lies, including former People Power Party candidate Jang Ki-pyo, floor leader Kim Gi-hyeon, and lawmaker Yoon Chang-hyun." Jo Jung-sik, the campaign's general director, said regarding floor leader Kim Gi-hyeon, "We will take (legal) action soon."

The candidate's side maintains that the Daejang-dong allegations are thoroughly a People Power Party gate. The campaign committee stated, "It is increasingly revealed that real estate developers aiming for a big win through development projects and current and former People Power Party officials who sensed the scent of money are involved in the Daejang-dong development project," adding, "The Daejang-dong case is a People Power Party gate where corrupt forces within the party and construction capitalists lost the real estate development rights but reappeared under the guise of financial institutions."

The campaign committee also appealed to intra-party rival candidates, saying, "No matter how intense the primary is, please do not attack by ignoring the People Power Party gate and making baseless claims or similar allegations." Earlier, candidate Lee Nak-yeon demanded the truth be revealed himself, saying in a media interview, "Several unreasonable things overlap."
