According to Brazilian media on the 18th (local time), a man dressed in black and wearing a mask covering his face threw a homemade bomb at the Chinese Consulate General located on Munis Bahetu Street in the Botafogo area of southern Rio on the night of the 16th. The homemade bomb exploded outside, damaging part of the entrance door, but no casualties were reported.
The Chinese Consulate General issued a statement on the same day, describing the homemade bomb attack as a "serious act of violence," and urged Brazilian authorities to conduct a thorough investigation, identify and punish the perpetrator, and prevent recurrence.
