[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangdong-gu (District Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon) is actively carrying out sharing activities for low-income residents in celebration of the Chuseok holiday, and the support from residents continues without interruption.
In August, Daesun Jinrihoe Susaek branch donated 30 bags of 10kg rice (worth approximately 9.2 million KRW) directly harvested from their farms, and Hyundai Department Store Cheonho branch donated 60 toy sets (worth approximately 32.2 million KRW). These donations were delivered to the Gangdong Food Bank Market and children from low-income families, respectively.
In September, an anonymous donor (individual) sent 250 bags of 20kg rice (worth approximately 149 million KRW) to be used for neighbors in need. Also, donor Kim**, who donates every holiday season, contributed 200 bags of 10kg rice (worth approximately 62 million KRW) this Chuseok, which were distributed to local social welfare facilities and low-income residents.
Additionally, local social enterprise Eco-friendly Food Co., Ltd. donated 200 sets of tofu and soy milk (worth approximately 29.5 million KRW) for elderly people living alone, following their donation during the Lunar New Year holiday.
The district also utilized the 2021 Hope Ondol Warm Winter Fund to support 500 vulnerable single-person households and 450 users of the Gangdong Food Market Bank with food packages containing flour, ramen, cooking oil, and other items, organized by the Gangdong Food Market Bank.

Furthermore, from the 6th to the 24th, the district is operating a ‘Food Sharing Event’ for employees and residents in preparation for Chuseok, collecting long-lasting food and daily necessities to be donated to the Gangdong Food Bank Market.
Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon of Gangdong-gu said, “I am grateful to everyone who extended a helping hand so that neighbors in need can have a bountiful Chuseok despite the prolonged difficulties caused by COVID-19. We will continue to strive to establish a culture of sharing widely within the community.”
