Son Who Beat Father to Death and Calmly Slept: "I Don't Remember" Denies Crime

[Asia Economy Reporter Seoyoung Kwon] A man in his 40s was arrested for fatally assaulting his father in his 80s while intoxicated.

Today (the 18th), the Iksan Police Station in Jeonbuk announced the arrest of Mr. A, in his 40s, on charges of injury resulting in death of a direct ascendant. Mr. A is accused of repeatedly beating his father, Mr. B (81), on the face and chest at a house in Inhwa-dong, Iksan City, around midnight on the 15th, causing his death. He also assaulted his mother, Mrs. C (73), who tried to intervene, causing her injuries.

The police responded to a report from Mrs. C saying "My son is causing a commotion" and arrived at the scene, where they urgently arrested Mr. A, who was sleeping in the living room at the time. The assaulted father was rushed to the hospital but ultimately passed away. The mother was not seriously injured but is currently receiving inpatient treatment locally.

Investigations revealed that Mr. A committed the crime while intoxicated, citing past discrimination by his parents against him compared to his siblings. Mr. A had previously visited his parents' home occasionally and committed acts of violence. During police questioning, he stated, "I do not remember because I was drunk."
