Cheongam University Nursing Department, Meta-Verse Nightingale Rises

[Suncheon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] The challenge of the Department of Nursing at Cheongam University (President Seo Hyung-won) is becoming a major topic on college campuses.

This is because the 67th Nightingale Pledge Ceremony was successfully completed using a metaverse platform.

Cheongam University announced on the 17th that the event, held from around 3 PM to 4 PM the previous day, was a fresh new challenge in virtual space that broke away from traditional formats, as all processes including the pre-event hosted by the student council, the main event, and photo sessions were conducted in this new way.

Metaverse is a term combining the words Meta (virtual) and Universe (space or reality).

It can be described as a ‘virtual reality’ or ‘virtual world,’ offering a new environment to illuminate reality from a different angle, participate directly, and understand changes through transformation.

Cheongam University conducted the event through the Ifland platform introduced by the Teaching and Learning Center, and the entire process?from the lighting by the second-year advisor professor, the pledge ceremony, to the singing of the school anthem?was carried out smoothly without any awkwardness.

Following the national anthem, the lighting ceremony was a remarkable scene where one candle became two, two became four, and the candles and videos of about 230 pledge students spread out like a mosaic.

The pledge students declared their commitment through a relay pledge, engraving the noble nursing spirit of Nightingale as prospective nurses and vowing never to engage in any act harmful to bioethics throughout their lives.

Since its establishment in 1954, Cheongam University has repeatedly developed through efforts in specialized fields.

Continuous challenges and efforts in social sciences, engineering, and natural sciences have borne great fruit together with the local community.

Among them, the pioneering footsteps in the nursing and health field are evaluated as an ‘unwavering passion.’

It was the midwife institution for Korean nurses dispatched to Germany in the 1970s, a specialized university in nursing and health, a university certified by the Korea Nursing Education Evaluation Institute (5 years), selected for the Nursing College Practical Education Support Project (Ministry of Health and Welfare), and this year again selected as a university for general financial support by the Ministry of Education, demonstrating its strength.

Furthermore, its status is further elevated by two national top scorers in the nurse licensing exam and ten successful candidates in this year’s health teacher appointment exam.

Professor Choi Eun-joo, head of the Department of Nursing, self-assessed, “Although this event using the metaverse was the first and had some shortcomings, the spirit of the event remained unchanged,” and expressed hope that it would be actively utilized with improvements in future events.

The video related to the 67th Nightingale Pledge Ceremony using the metaverse will be released through the ‘Cheongam University Remote Class Support Office (CTL)’ YouTube channel.
