[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Cho Hyung-joo] The College of Natural Sciences at Chonnam National University (Dean Professor Shin Byung-chun) announced on the 17th that it will hold the "‘Focus On Science’ Basic Science with Local Residents" event eight times from the 24th to December 12th.

This event will be conducted in various ways with eight departments belonging to the College of Natural Sciences setting themes by department. The first session on the 24th will be hosted by the Department of Earth Environmental Science, specializing in Geological Environment, under the theme "Earthquakes and Science - Learning Seismology Easily," covering ▲ Causes and regional trends of earthquakes in Korea ▲ Characteristics of earthquakes (seismic wave propagation, attenuation, magnitude, etc.) ▲ History of earthquake research and domestic earthquake information ▲ Evacuation guidelines and response systems during earthquakes.

Dean Shin Byung-chun said, "This event was planned to popularize basic science," adding, "By reinterpreting each department’s research fields into materials that can be found in everyday life and explaining them easily, we aim to eliminate the public’s aversion to science, stimulate intellectual curiosity, and let people know that basic science is deeply embedded in our daily lives."

Local middle and high school students, the general public, and university members can participate by accessing the QR code on the poster and registering in advance.
