[Asia Economy Reporter Park Byung-hee] French automobile manufacturer Renault plans to cut an additional 2,000 jobs, Bloomberg reported on the 16th (local time). This measure aims to readjust the struggling production plans at its French factories and focus more on the electric vehicle business.

Renault announced in a statement that it is negotiating with French labor unions to reduce 1,600 technical positions and 400 support staff between 2022 and 2024. Instead, Renault plans to hire 2,500 people in data analysis and battery-related sectors during the same period.

Last year, Renault announced plans to cut 14,600 jobs worldwide, including 4,600 in France. Additionally, it said it would reduce production capacity by nearly 20%.

Renault stated that it will launch nine new electric vehicle models by 2025.
