[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] There are speculations that the ‘Galaxy A73,’ expected to be the flagship of Samsung Electronics’ mid-range lineup ‘Galaxy A’ series next year, may be equipped with a 108-megapixel camera.
On the 16th (local time), IT specialized media SamMobile reported that Samsung Electronics plans to equip the Galaxy A73, the top model of next year’s Galaxy A series, with a 108-megapixel camera.
Samsung Electronics previously released 108-megapixel cameras in the ‘Galaxy S21 Ultra’ and ‘Galaxy S20 Ultra’ models. The S21 Ultra used the ISOCELL HM3 sensor, but it is not yet clear whether the same sensor will be used in the A73 model. SamMobile evaluated, “Considering the significant role that excellent cameras play in the DNA of the Galaxy A series, it is quite possible for the A73 model to adopt a 108-megapixel camera.”
There is also a forecast that from next year, to upgrade the overall Galaxy A series, all products will be provided with the ‘Optical Image Stabilizer (OIS)’ function on their main cameras. Using a product equipped with OIS allows for less shake and clearer shooting even in dark environments. Until now, Samsung Electronics has only equipped OIS functions in flagship products such as the ‘Galaxy S’ series and recent key models like the ‘Galaxy A52s 5G’ and ‘Galaxy A72.’
If Samsung Electronics applies the OIS function to all products in the Galaxy A series, it is evaluated that it will gain differentiated competitiveness in the mid-range market competition against Chinese manufacturers such as Xiaomi. Earlier, IT specialized media GSMArena stated, “Chinese manufacturers’ smartphones are competitive in terms of price compared to Samsung’s products, but if Samsung equips all A series with OIS, it will have an important differentiating feature as it can gain superiority in night camera image quality and other aspects.”
The A72, released last March, attracted attention with performance comparable to flagship models. The A72 was the first in the Galaxy A series to apply the ‘Space Zoom’ camera function up to 30x. It was equipped with four cameras on the rear, including a 64-megapixel main camera. Additionally, it enhanced photo and video quality by incorporating the OIS function, and featured IP67-rated water and dust resistance, an in-display fingerprint sensor, and a 90Hz refresh rate.
