Hwang Do-Young, Gwangju Nam-gu Council Member, "Active Measures Needed Against Delivery Motorcycle Noise Pollution"

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Hwang Do-young, a member of the Nam-gu Council in Gwangju Metropolitan City, stated on the 16th, "Nam-gu must actively respond to the noise problem caused by delivery motorcycles in the urban area."

Councilor Hwang made this statement during a 5-minute free speech at the 279th 4th plenary session held that day.

He explained, "As delivery demand has increased due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, delivery culture has become a part of daily life, but traffic awareness has not yet kept pace with this change. The increase in motorcycle traffic late into the night has led to a growing number of residents complaining about noise discomfort."

He pointed out, "Since environmental pollution and noise damage are issues most directly related to people's livelihoods, local governments should take the lead in making the urban environment comfortable by reducing noise, but Nam-gu has only conducted one-time crackdowns in the past three years."

Councilor Hwang proposed, "Regular inspections of delivery agencies within the district should be conducted, not just guidance, but also imposing lawful fines, and continuous joint crackdowns with related organizations should be carried out."

He also demanded, "Please actively promote projects that replace and support delivery motorcycles with electric motorcycles that have no engine noise, and prepare practical measures."
