Rep. Yoon Young-duk to Raise 'State Funeral for Jeon Du-hwan and National Cemetery Burial' in Government Questioning

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Yoon Youngdeok, Member of the National Assembly (Democratic Party of Korea·Gwangju Dong-gu Nam-gu Gap), will question Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum, Deputy Prime Minister for Social Affairs and Minister of Education Yoo Eun-hye, and Minister of Gender Equality and Family Jung Young-ae on the 16th during the government-wide questioning session on education, society, and culture, focusing on the role of the state in caring for the ordinary lives of the people and issues related to education in the Republic of Korea.

Assemblyman Yoon plans to demand the government's clear stance on the issue of honoring Jeon Du-hwan, who seized power through rebellion and murder for the purpose of rebellion, in the name of the state.

He will focus on recent public controversies, questioning whether Jeon Du-hwan qualifies for a state funeral and whether he is excluded from burial at the National Cemetery.

Regarding the collapse of the building in Hakdong, Gwangju, he will emphasize the government's role in thoroughly investigating the truth, punishing those responsible, preparing institutional improvement measures to prevent recurrence, and supporting the return to daily life of the bereaved families and the injured.

On the occasion of the 76th anniversary of Liberation Day, he plans to raise the need for legislation supporting the victims among the Korean Women’s Volunteer Labor Corps and a special law excluding the statute of limitations for compensation lawsuits by victims of forced mobilization during Japanese colonial rule.

He will inquire about the state's role for the victims among the Women’s Volunteer Labor Corps forcibly mobilized during the Japanese colonial period and confirm the necessity of the bill he sponsored, the “Act on Protection, Support, and Commemoration Projects for Female Victims of the Women’s Volunteer Labor Corps during the Japanese Colonial Period.”

Questions related to the recently announced university basic competency evaluation are also scheduled. He will call for a comprehensive review of the third cycle evaluation and its results, which have become controversial as 52 universities that failed the evaluation have announced a strong response through joint administrative lawsuits, aiming to create universities that truly fulfill their role.

He will not overlook educational issues such as the education recovery project and the COVID-19 vaccination plan for those aged 12 to 17.

Emphasizing that learning deficits, psychological and emotional anxiety, and lack of social skills caused by the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic will become lifelong gaps that individuals must bear if the state does not intervene, he will review the Ministry of Education’s education recovery project and question the COVID-19 vaccination plan for children and adolescents aged 12 to 17, which parents and students are curious about.

Assemblyman Yoon Youngdeok stated, “This government-wide questioning session will be a forum to confirm the role of the state in caring for the ordinary lives of the people.”
