[Asia Economy Reporter Park Cheol-eung] Song Young-gil, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, said that the possibility of former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol's direct involvement in the "report solicitation scandal" has increased.

At the Supreme Council meeting on the 15th, Song said, "The puzzle of the report solicitation scandal, starring Yoon Seok-yeol, the prosecution, and the People Power Party, which is a national disgrace, is gradually coming together," adding, "According to media reports, last March, the Supreme Prosecutors' Office prepared a detailed document regarding suspicions related to Yoon Seok-yeol's mother-in-law at the time."

He continued, "The document appears to be a defense brief unilaterally defending Yoon's mother-in-law concerning four reported cases," and criticized, "Although (former Prosecutor General) Yoon boasted that he would not even receive reports related to his mother-in-law's cases, the Supreme Prosecutors' Office, acting as his hands and feet, moved like a butler or fixer to protect criminal charges."

He added, "The Supreme Prosecutors' Office must thoroughly investigate through inspection and investigation. It is a shocking reality that the complete privatization of prosecutorial power and the prosecution organization resemble a perfect 'Hanahoe' (a secretive group)," he pointed out.

Song also mentioned, "Especially with this revelation, the direct involvement of candidate Yoon Seok-yeol in the report solicitation scandal has also increased. It is presumed that documents responding to family-related corruption allegations were prepared and report documents were handed over. Looking at the content, one wonders if there has ever been a report that so passionately represents candidate Yoon's position."

He urged, "The Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) should conduct a thorough investigation to confirm its reason for existence. The investigation into former Yongsan Tax Office chief Yoon Woo-jin's business partner should also speed up," emphasizing, "It is necessary for the public that Yoon Seok-yeol's true nature be revealed quickly."

Yoon Ho-jung, the Democratic Party floor leader, also criticized, saying, "I wonder if there has ever been a candidate like this in the past. At this level, it is not a forced smear 'Eokkka' but a self-smear 'Seukka'." He added, "The People Power Party is mobilizing all its forces today to protect candidate Yoon Seok-yeol, who turned the Supreme Prosecutors' Office into an illegal political workshop and a free defense office for family and close associates."
